BIO

My name is Alisha and I am a first-year graduate student in the lab ! I grew up in small town Wisconsin where I spent a lot of my time outdoors and playing sports. I completed my undergraduate degree at Waldorf University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in November 2023. At Waldorf I worked with Dr. Ed Jedlicka, a Clinical Neuropsychologist at the SSM Health Treffert Center in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, studying how therapeutic music could benefit children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I was also a student athlete playing volleyball. Before coming to UNL, I worked as a post-baccalaureate research intern in Dr. Jason Radley's neuroscience lab at the University of Iowa looking at stress modeled in rodents. My research there focused on examining the insular cortex-bed nucleus pathway and its role in responding to stress. My interests as a graduate student include traumatic brain injuries (TBI), the interaction of the aging of TBI, and neurodegenerative changes in the brain more generally. Other interests of mine outside of science are: volleyball, pickleball, weightlifting, spending time with friends and family, and coffee.
